About Me

Understanding Real Estate Issues About a year ago, I began thinking about unloading my existing property and getting a new house. Unfortunately, I wasn't really sure where to start, so I turned to a friend of mine who specialized in real estate. They walked me through the entire process of selling a house and investing in a new one, and I was really impressed with how much of a difference they made in my process. I began working hard to get things taken care of, and within a few months I was able to completely transform my finances with the sale of my home.

Sell A Home With Pets Living In It

When you are selling your home there are different hurdles you may have to get over to get your home in the best shape possible, so it is as appealing as possible to those who come to look at it. If you own pets, then you want to be sure you take care of any issues they have caused that may be concerning to anyone who may be thinking of buying it. Here are some of the things you can do to improve your chances of selling your real estate after you have had pets in it.

Deep clean the interior of your home

You never know if the next person who comes to see your home suffers from allergies to the types of pets you have. If you don't get on top of removing the pet dander from everywhere possible, they may have to leave your home as soon as they start to suffer from their allergy symptoms. Here are some of the areas you want to make sure you give a deep cleaning to before showing your home:

  • Vacuum your curtains and other window treatments
  • Dust all surfaces
  • Remove all pet bedding from common areas
  • Vacuum all carpeting and rugs with a strong vacuum cleaner
  • Sweep and mop all hard flooring
  • Steam clean all carpeting with a pet-graded steam cleaner
  • Vacuum all furniture
  • Wash and dry all bedspreads
  • Clean litter pans shortly before someone comes to see the house to remove odors

Tip: Make sure you try to do your deep cleaning a day before someone comes to see your home or you can actually stir up the allergens, causing them to be more bothersome to those with allergies.

Cleaning the exterior of your home

You also want to make sure you clean all signs of pets from the yard, porches and decks. This way, people who don't necessarily like the idea that pets lived in the house won't be reminded of the fact that you have them as they are trying to see the outside of the home. This includes picking up all pet toys and dishes from the yard, as well as making sure you have picked up any and all of their excrement from the yard.

If you have a dog that likes to dig around the yard, then it is also a good idea to go out and fill the holes with dirt. Not only will this help the yard to look better, but it can also prevent there from being tripping hazards in the yard that someone can fall in while they are checking out the property.

Make sure all odors are gone

When you live in a home it can be hard to tell what it really smells like. When you have pets, there can be some strong pet odors you are unaware of. Have someone who doesn't live in the home come check things out for you. If there are offensive smells, it is important to rid your home of them as much as possible.

Get rid of fleas

If you have fleas in your home, you want to make sure you get them out of the home before you try selling it. If someone gets a flea on them while they are looking around, then it can really decrease your chances of getting an offer.
